Can You Sell AI-Made Digital Products on Etsy? Rules, Fees and a Checklist
Yes, on Etsy if the work comes from your own original prompts and you state the AI use in the listing description. Etsy's Creativity Standards say AI prompt bundles do not qualify. Fees differ a lot by platform and price, so use the calculator below with your own numbers before you pick where to sell.

What does Etsy say about AI-made products?
Etsy's Creativity Standards (last updated June 10, 2025 on the page we checked) put AI work under the "designed by a seller" category when it is "generated using AI tools … based on a seller's original prompts." Two other lines matter most: sellers "must disclose within their listing description if an item is created with the use of AI," and "AI prompt bundles" are listed as items that do not qualify.
| Product | What Etsy's page says |
|---|---|
| AI art from your own prompts, such as a fantasy scene | Qualifies as designed by the seller, with disclosure in the description |
| A custom portrait of a buyer's pet made with AI tools | Given as an example of a qualifying item, with disclosure |
| A bundle of AI prompts | Does not qualify |
Where does the AI disclosure go, and what should it say?
In the listing description. Titles and tags are not mentioned in the rule. A vague "made with AI" tells buyers little. A sentence about what you did yourself is clearer and easier to defend.
The download button at the top gives you four ready sentences for art, planners, written guides and custom orders. Keep only what is true for your product.
Which AI-assisted products are lower risk?
This part is practical judgement, not an Etsy rule. The lower-risk products share one trait: you add something an AI output alone cannot, and you can say what it is.
- Tools you built and used. A tracker, planner or intake form whose structure you designed and tested.
- Edited visuals. Art you generated from your own prompts, then selected, retouched and laid out.
- Guides with your own examples. Pages built around your screenshots, numbers or process.
Higher risk: unedited output, near-identical files in bulk, and anything that is really a list of prompts.
How much will you keep after fees?
Enter your price and sales below. The Etsy and Payhip payment-processing rates are examples. Replace them with the rates in your own shop and payment settings.
Fee comparison calculator
| Platform | Fees per sale | Net per sale | Net per month | Fee % |
|---|
Etsy's $0.20 listing fee is charged per listing, so it is not in this table. Gumroad's and Lemon Squeezy's published percentages are shown as the platform fee. Lemon Squeezy lists payment processing as included, and Gumroad's pricing page does not list it separately. Lemon Squeezy also says some payments may carry extra fees. Payhip's paid plan prices are subtracted from the monthly figure.
What do the platforms publish?
| Platform | Published fee | Sales tax and VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Etsy | $0.20 per item listed, 6.5% transaction fee, payment processing varies by bank location, Offsite Ads 15% (under $10,000 annual sales) or 12% (over) on attributed orders | Not stated on the fees page |
| Gumroad | 10% + $0.50 on direct sales, 30% on Discover sales | Says it has handled all tax obligations since January 1, 2025 |
| Lemon Squeezy | 5% + 50¢, includes payment processing | Merchant of record; handles tax collection and filing |
| Payhip | Free plan 5%; Plus $29/month 2%; Pro $99/month no transaction fee. PayPal and Stripe charge their standard rates on all plans | Collects and remits EU and UK VAT |

A fixed 50-cent fee is small on a big sale and large on a small one. Here is the platform fee alone, from the published rates above:
| Sale price | Lemon Squeezy (5% + $0.50) | Gumroad direct (10% + $0.50) | Gumroad Discover (30%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| $9 | $0.95 (10.6%) | $1.40 (15.6%) | $2.70 (30%) |
| $24 | $1.70 (7.1%) | $2.90 (12.1%) | $7.20 (30%) |
| $49 | $2.95 (6.0%) | $5.40 (11.0%) | $14.70 (30%) |
Etsy and Payhip are left out because their payment processing is charged separately. Use the calculator for those.
Where should you sell a prompt pack instead?
Etsy is not the place for a prompt bundle. Creator platforms such as Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy and Payhip sell files directly, but we have not checked each one's rules on AI or prompt products. Read the terms in each site's footer before you upload.

What mistakes lose sales or listings?
- Leaving out the AI disclosure. Etsy says it must be in the description.
- Selling prompts on Etsy. Etsy lists AI prompt bundles as not qualifying.
- Using unedited output. Near-identical files are hard to stand out with.
- Ignoring fixed fees on cheap items. The calculator shows how a flat 50 cents changes a $9 product.
- Relying on last year's rules. Check the "last updated" date on the policy page.
